Lawson Liberty Fund: Today is the Day

Today is a truly vital in the history of the country, as it represents the 321st anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States of America, the supreme law of the nation that enshrines and commands government to protect our inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Benjamin Franklin made a statement the day after the signing that demonstrates today why it is so important to be active in politics today, both through raising awareness about important issues and in supporting candidates good candidates when they campaign for office. Franklin was asked the question, “Well, doctor, what have we got?” He responded, “A republic, if you can keep it.”

Like many of the founders, Dr. Franklin was very fearful of the day when the government of the country that had been won for liberty from tyranny through the sacrifices of so many would one day resemble the tyrannical force they had expelled from America. This is why they established a republic in which its government is restricted in its authority by the rule of law, and in which its authority is separated among three branches with each having the ability to check the other. However, Dr. Franklin knew that it would require an educated and alert citizenry and principled leaders and representatives of people in order to maintain this system and prevent tyranny from emerging.

For too long, we have ignored our call to be vigilant over the activities of our government and in defense of our rights. In less than 100 years, we have allowed an income tax, aggressive and non-declared wars, un-Constitutional spending financed by massive borrowing and money creation, and the evisceration of our fundamental liberties enshrined in the Bill of Rights to be heaped on us in the names of “security,” “order,” and “compassion.” There is surely nothing secure about instigating wars and inviting animosity from others through aggressive intervention. There is surely nothing compassionate about taking the earned property of hard-working individuals through the force of a machine gun, or devaluing the money used by poor and middle class families who live from paycheck to paycheck. And there is nothing orderly about a government who can spy on its citizens without warrant or suspend their right to Habeas Corpis, or of an executive branch that can ignore the legislature and enact law by decree.

Many citizens have been inspired by the Presidential campaign of Dr. Ron Paul to take up the calling of a citizen of a free country to combat and raise awareness of the abuses of the government of our liberty. While his Presidential campaign ended before November, the Campaign for Liberty- OUR Campaign for Liberty- continues and shall persist. It is time for this campaign to take the next step, which is the election of yet another Doctor prescribing the antidote to tyranny.

Dr. William “B.J.” Lawson, Republican Congressional Nominee in North Carolina District 4, shares so much in common with Dr. Paul, who has endorsed his candidacy. In fact, his Republican Primary opponent referred to him as “Ron Paul, Jr.” Dr. Lawson, like Dr. Paul, is a graduate of Duke Medical School. Like Dr. Paul, he married his high school sweetheart, and he has gained valuable life experience through working hard to support his sizable family and provide value for his community. Like Dr. Paul, he entered into politics after studying monetary economics and being very concerned about the direction in which our society is going. Like Dr. Paul, he is running a campaign based on honest discussion of the issues rather than dirty smear tactics characteristic of our two-party political system. And like Dr. Paul, he will be a steadfast defender of liberty and of the rule of law in Congress.

This day in 1787 was the birth of a system of government that, while not necessary a brand new idea, was nonetheless a revolutionary one that has inspired so many societies around the world to adopt it through the admiration of our values and ideals. In honor of this day, let’s donate in amounts of $17.87 (or even $178.7 or $1787, if you’re feeling bold) to B.J.’s campaign. You may do so online at https://www.lawsonforcongress.com/donate. With this vital support, you will give his campaign the boost he needs to win on November 4 and carry on the Revolution!

In Liberty,
Lawson Liberty Fund
